1. What problem will cloud migration solve?

BeCloud has recently implemented fast remote access, the hosting of desktops and applications, and the development of custom cloud-based applications and websites utilizing cloud resources.  Our solutions allow for improved availability, better security, and more agility when compared to legacy on-premise solutions.  Below are some examples of how we utilized the cloud to solve customer problems:

Technology Investments should solve enterprise problems. Due to COVID-19 several offices that we support are moving their workloads to the cloud to enable faster remote access while at the same time improving security.  Migrating to the cloud allows unprecedented access to corporate resources.  Customers that don't invest in the cloud, in many cases require that essential workers travel to the office to perform some job duties because seamless/fast remote access is not available.

Cloud-enabled agility.  Being able to dynamically adjust to user demands allowed one of our customers to save costs while at the same time offering better performance during peak hours. Because of the dynamic capability of the cloud, we could run two servers during peak times while shutting down one server at night.

Higher Availability.  During the winter storm of 2021, our clients who had resources in the cloud experienced fewer outages and interruptions than on-premise solutions.  One of our customers lost all project work capability in a Dallas Texas office because an on-premise server was without power.  If that server was hosted in the cloud,  at least some project work could have been done from locations that did not lose power during the storm.

2. Have you identified cloud requirements?

Every cloud migration project is different.  Some are simple "lift and shift" while others require complete rearchitecting for the cloud but, all migrations will need the following:

Fast and reliable Internet. Because you are connecting to resources in the cloud via the Internet., you need reliable, fast, and low latency connections to the Internet.

Match business regulatory needs with security requirements. Our Medical customers require HIPAA compliance. The Cloud makes encryption at rest and in transit available with the click of a button.  Identity Management is tightly integrated enabling a zero-trust security model.

Pick the right service provider for your migration. You will need to pick a service provider who has experienced and certified staff to assist with migrating workloads to the cloud.

Garner employee support. Employees need to understand that the cloud allows for modern infrastructure.  It doesn't take a rocket scientist to use and can be configured to improve employee work experiences.

3. Is it economically feasible?

The cloud provides a new way of paying for technology.  Compute becomes a utility similar to your water, cable, and electric bills.  The more you consume the more you pay.  As a result, some companies have a hard time adjusting to that mindset. Below are a few considerations concerning cloud economics:

Maximize Return on Investment. The cloud provides benefits that can be hard to put a dollar value on.  What dollar value would you assign to service level agreements of 99.99% uptime for common cloud services? In addition, cloud providers are responsible for physically securing the data centers and managing the global infrastructure.

Gain Operational Resilience.  What dollar value would you assign to improved availability, security, and compliance?  It is easy to gain uptimes of more than 99.99% by spreading workloads across global infrastructure with regional redundancy.

Utilize Economies of Scale. As the cloud brings on more workloads the cost of its underlying services decreases.  Those efficiencies translate into lower consumer cost.

Cloud Migration doesn't have to be difficult.
